We received the Boult Striker smartwatch, as well as a magnetic USB-D charging cable and device documentation.
Design
We thought the Boult Striker smartwatch looked like something a teenager would like as soon as we opened the box. The dial of the watch was large, with a diameter of about 1.28 inches and noticeable bezels. Aside from that, there is a white rim that displays the watch's name, marks 10/20/40 second intervals, and shows where the microphone is located. When compared to the strap, the large dial looks out of place and hides the device's metallic brown finish.
User encounter
The Boult Striker smartwatch has the majority of the features that one would expect from a low-cost smartwatch. It has a large number of watch faces and is programmed to help users accept/reject calls and play music. It monitors vital signs such as the wearer's heart rate, blood pressure, and blood oxygen level, as well as their sleep and menstrual cycle.
The screen's clarity, with pixelated lettering, was an immediate disappointment. While the icons are easily accessible, the crumbly typeface was difficult to read.
What most perplexed us was that the Boult Striker smartwatch measured heartrate and blood pressure not only while worn on the wrist, but also while it was removed and placed on a table for hours on end. The smartwatch appeared to be unable to detect when it was removed from the wearer's wrist at times, and it continued to record completely erroneous health stats. This naturally leads a user to question whether they can trust the smartwatch's on-wrist results.
The Boult Striker smartwatch also includes a long list of sports profiles that users can activate while exercising to time themselves and track their calorie burn. The app assists them in analyzing this data and determining the quality of the workouts.
The watch is quite heavy on the wrist and interferes with using a laptop. It is also inconvenient to wear while sleeping. The device is water/dust resistant to IP68 standards. Sweat or water splashes had no effect on it during our testing period.
The Boult Striker is tough and can withstand a lot of knocks and scrapes in the gym without showing any signs of wear.
App
The BoultFit app for your smartphone should allow you to handle calls, import contacts, listen to music, and view the recorded vitals and cycles. The app, however, would not allow us to use Bluetooth to access the smartphone's call and music features.
The interface of the BoultFit app is clean and simple. However, some sections are confusing because the on-screen graphics do not always match the color coding.
Battery
Though we couldn't use all of the advertised features, the Boult Striker smartwatch lasts for about four days when at maximum brightness and when set to continuously monitor the wearer's heartbeat. In about an hour, the smartwatch is fully charged. The charging cable is too short for comfortable use, and the magnetic backing is weak, making it easy to accidentally disconnect the watch.
If you only use the device to tell time and test your vitals every now and then, the charging speed and battery life are impressive for an entry-level smartwatch.
Verdict
The Boult Striker smartwatch entices potential buyers with a low price and a sturdy build, but its health trackers are unreliable, and the unwieldy design will disappoint buyers looking for a more elegant timepiece.
